England began their Women Cricket World Cup 2025 campaign with a massive victory against South Africa in Guwahati. Both the bowling and the batting of the English team were truly good and they won the match by 10 wickets. This outcome has provided them with a good beginning in the tournament and even better their net run rate.

South Africa opened first but their batting very soon broke. They only had 69 runs allotted in 20.4 overs of the entire team. This was their lowest number of in women ODI cricket history. The bowlers of England had been superb in the first place. Linsey Smith was the show-man with 3 wickets only at 7 runs. Nat Sciver-Brunt got 2 wickets on 5 runs and Sophie Ecclestone and Charlie Dean got 2 wickets each. The batters of South Africa could not cope with the pressure and six of them were bowled out.

England’s chase was very easy. Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones were calm openers who did not lose a wicket in the game. Amy Jones had a score of 40 runs without being out and Beaumont had 21 runs. England only achieved the target of 73 in 14.1 overs and the win appeared to be easy and one-sided.

To South Africa, this was a massive let down. Captain Laura Wolvaardt and opener Tazmin Brits were sent home early and the middle order was unable to salvage the situation. The team will then be forced to return with renewed vigor and practice their batting in the subsequent matches.

This victory has made England one of the most confident teams in the Women world cup 2025. Their bowling section is very strong and their batters are in good shape, too. England is now to play Bangladesh their next match and South Africa has to improve rapidly in order to remain in the game.
