After the ongoing white-ball series in England, India’s coaching setup may change yet again as assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has been said to be thinking of leaving India. The former Netherlands all-rounder has relented and notified the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of his plans to retire after the England ODI series, reports said.

The third ODI to be played at Lord’s on July 19 may be his last game for Team India as his tenure is set to end after almost two years.

Family Reasons Behind Possible Exit

Ten Doeschate reportedly left because of personal reasons, and not for any conflicts with his job. The 45-year-old is thought to be seeking a job that requires less traveling to spend more time with his family in London.

After a long spell on the international circuit, his wife is still working and, with three young sons at home, the former cricketer is said to be ready to devote more time to family.

Ten Doeschate was recommended by Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of India, and is currently on the team. While in his time there, he has been seen as one of Gambhir’s trusted lieutenants and has been a significant figure in the background.

He is highly regarded in the dressing room, but it has been reported that his duties have at times been in conflict with the fielding coach T Dilip who in consequence has been unable to work much in his specialist area.

He has reportedly asked to be removed, but the final decision has yet to be made. India are looking for consistency after a shaky run in white-ball cricket and Gambhir is believed to be considering offering him a second chance with the team.

However, the future of T Dilip seems to have been put to rest. As reported, the team’s fielding coach is likely to continue with the Indian team and will not be a part of the new coaching team.

As the England tour comes to a conclusion, the BCCI will now need to decide whether it will accept ten Doeschate’s request or will try to convince him to stay on as part of India’s support staff before he embarks on his next international trip.
