Jasprit Bumrah Sri Lanka Tests preparations have got a huge boost after the India pace man was declared fit for the next two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. The spinster, who has cleared all the necessary fitness tests at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru, is set to be fit for both matches.
Bumrah was added to the fitness squad of India in light of an impact injury that he suffered in the recent ODI series against England. The injury had left him in doubt before the 3rd ODI at Lord’s and is further delaying his ability to tour Sri Lanka.
Bumrah is completely fit and has passed all the mandatory fitness tests carried out by the Centre of Excellence, a senior BCCI official confirmed.
Jasprit Bumrah Sri Lanka Tests Availability Boosts India’s WTC Hopes
The Jasprit Bumrah Sri Lanka Tests availability comes at a crucial juncture for India, which are starting the first Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle on August 15. The second Test will take place in Colombo from August 23.
The series is important for India as they go through the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. India need to win seven of their remaining nine Tests to stay in contention for a place in the WTC final.
The win would give them a great start in Sri Lanka with India heading to New Zealand for a tough away fixture towards the end of the series.
Several key players will still miss out of the Indian squad due to injuries. Harshit Rana has been ruled out with a hamstring injury while Nitish Kumar Reddy is out due to a quadriceps injury.
Washington Sundar will skip the first Test due to a hamstring injury, while Akash Deep has stress reactions in his back which are continuing to hamper his recovery.
India will hope that the star of their pace attack, Jasprit Bumrah, will lead the attack and help them start their Sri Lanka series strong after he has come back to the squad.
