With the upcoming season of IPL 2026, the move of Sanju Samson from the Rajasthan Royals to Chennai Super Kings transfer is one of the most discussed transfers. The wicketkeeper-batter had served the franchise a few seasons with Rajasthan before, and even headed it, so his abrupt departure made lots of questions to the fans.

There was weeks long speculation as to his departure. Samson has finally raised the issue and explained why he believed it was high time to move on.

Samson indicated that there was no dispute or disagreeing point between the franchise and the decision. Rather, he described that there are just occasions when a player just feels that a chapter is over and a new challenge is necessary. Having wasted years with Rajasthan, Samson felt that a change of environment would enable him to develop further as a cricketer.

It also presents an interesting scenario at the beginning of the season. Chennai Super Kings will be playing against Rajasthan Royals, in one of the first two matches of the tournament. That would imply that Samson would play against the team he used to be a captain. But the Indian batter replied that it is not the emotions that will interfere with his game as soon as he gets into the field. He will not focus on anything but being a performer in his new team, he said.

The other significant factor that makes Samson excited about the move is the opportunity to have a full season of IPL with MS Dhoni. Samson disclosed that he has already talked to the legendary captain prior to the tournament and explained all his talks with Dhoni as being inspirational. He thinks that two months together in the same dressing room will be an excellent learning experience.

Samson also said how Chennai fans had been behind him at the recent T20 World Cup. He acknowledged that the crowd love came as a surprise to him and he felt like he was welcomed even prior to joining the franchise. Due to the same reason, he claims he is willing to offer his best to his team in the next IPL.

The decision can be an opportune one since Samson is in fine shape at the moment, in Chennai. In the time when India was competing in the T20 world cup, he has made some crucial innings in high stakes matches. His runs in the knockout were among the reasons why India continued gaining momentum towards the title.

The attention is now turned to the IPL, and Samson will open an entirely new door in his career. The new season may also be one of the most significant stages of his career in the IPL with a new role and a new team with some experienced players guiding him.
