India revealed their squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, where veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been recalled for the team as Saransh Jain got his first Test call-up.
The 33-year old all-rounder has been included in the squad as the bowlers’ hamstring specialist Washington Sundar was dropped from the first Test squad because of a hamstring injury. Saransh has now been playing consistently for the domestic teams and for India ‘A’ and finally made a place in the national setup.
Saransh has been amongst the brightest cricketers for the Indian domestic side in the last couple of seasons. He has established himself as a reliable all-rounder for Madhya Pradesh, and has made regular appearances in first class cricket with both bat and ball.
Strong Ranji Trophy performances in 2025-26, as well as a brilliant Duleep Trophy campaign, further boosted his bid for India. More recently Saransh made his impression in India ‘A’s tour to Sri Lanka where he took seven wickets in two unofficial Tests and scored an unbeaten 50 in the second game.
As the Sri Lankan conditions are set to be dominated by the spin, Saransh may be in contention to make his Test debut.
Ravindra Jadeja is also back from a layoff to add some experience to the spin department for India’s one off Test against Afghanistan.
Both Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan have been included in the squad but they are still awaiting fitness clearance from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence. Bumrah’s recovery from his knee injury sustained in the ODI series in England and Sudharsan’s knee injury concern during India ‘A’s’ tour of Sri Lanka is also a factor.
However, Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the first Test and Nitish Kumar Reddy has not been selected as he is on rehabilitation. All-rounder Harsh Dubey, who played against Afghanistan, is also left out.
India have kept the backbone of the team which featured in the recent Test duties. The team will be captained by Shubman Gill with KL Rahul as the vice-captain. Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar are also part of the pace attack, with the spin attack consisting of Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar and Saransh Jain.
India’s Test tour of Sri Lanka starts on August 15 in Galle, where they will play two-match Test series. India will play a four-day warm up match before the series kicks off, the second Test will be played at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo on August 23.
