HDsports Desk – The left-arm spin wizard Kuldeep Yadav might make a reappearance in the Indian overseas Test XI soon, with the team management deputising a two-spinner balance in the second, to be played on 2 July at Edgbaston. Being overworked in the first Test (43.4 overs bowled) is likely to make Jasprit Bumrah take a break. Therefore, India will field a part-time medium pacer in the form of a frontline spinner in order to make use of the warm surface which will also be on offer in Birmingham.

Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate of India did also confirm that there was a very strong probability of playing two spinners and that Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar were candidates in the contention to join Ravindra Jadeja. Kuldeep, who last played a Test abroad in Chattogram in 2022, has caught the eyes in the nets recently, and he is considered a high-impact player. However, his poor batting qualification has sometimes become a disadvantage when it comes to the selection of teams.

India is likely to replace Shardul Thakur, who had an underperforming first match, with Nitish Reddy. In the pace department, Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep are fighting over the third seamer position beside Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna.

After the defeat of India in the first match 0-1, the team will look forward to giving a resounding reply to draw the five-match series square. England are likely to stick with their starting 11, but the big question is whether India will go with the heavy risk of deploying their quickest wrist spinner on a surface where it may get spicier in the second innings.
