Devdutt Padikkal Test Debut
Padikkal did not know that he would be playing his first Test match in Dharamsala, but he made his name with his bat. There was no special media fanfare, and his father was not a guest in the commentary box, but he did not perform any worse than anyone else in his debut match.
It is odd that different players’ debuts in the same series received different coverage; while Padikkal’s shots were impressive, no commentator compared them to the legendary Sourav Ganguly’s cover drive. One player was praised for their traditional style, while another was simply called “the best.”
Devdutt Padikkal, a left-handed artistic batsman, opened his Test debut with a half-century at Dharamsala. He used 10 fours and 1 six to score 65 runs off 103 balls. Rajat Patidar’s injury forced Devdutt Padikkal into the starting lineup. Rajat Patidar failed to get a single fifty in six innings, but Devdutt Padikkal got fifty in the opening innings of his debut match.
