Shamar Springer has joined the side of the West Indies after Keemo Paul went on leave to attend to his personal and family matters and the team enters Bangladesh Test with another tweak to the strategy.
Player absence has had an impact on the team, and Springer brings in a seam-bowling allrounder to complement that. Alzarri Joseph has been benched for workload reasons and Shai Hope will be rested. Paul had been recruited to replace Joseph when he left the team.
The tour is a breakthrough for Springer who has only limited international experience and is seeking his first Test start. He has made three appearances in ODIs and 12 T20Is but his experience in the longer format dates back to domestic cricket, having played 23 first-class matches.
He played for Barbados in the 2026 West Indies Championship and his overall contribution in the bat was 251 runs from four games with an average of 50.20. Springer has also 58 first class wickets to his name and he is a bowling specialist, having picked up seven wickets at 42.00 in the championship itself.
West Indies start training in Dhaka in the three-day warm-up game against Bangladesh from 22nd to 24th October. The first Test will take place in Mirpur from October 28 to 1st November while the second will be held in Sylhet from November 5 to 9.
The team comes in the wake of a disjointed white ball campaign in India. West Indies, after losing the ODI series 2-1, drew the T20I series 2-2. The tour was concluded with the last T20I at Bengaluru on 17th October after it had to be scrapped due to rain.
