India’s young batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi was on the verge of a world record when he made a stunning delivery of 81 runs in the third T20I against Zimbabwe. He missed the opportunity of a maiden international century but the 15-year-old is certainly in the running to be the youngest ever to score 100 in international cricket.
Suryavanshi’s dominance on the plate again showed the reason why he is being considered as one of the bright young talents of India.

India started with Suryavanshi, who took control of Zimbabwe’s bowling attack with a fun-filled 81 off 49 balls. He hit eight boundaries and four sixes in his innings to be in danger of a fine century before his century was completed.
If he had crossed three figures, Suryavanshi would have become the youngest centurion in international cricket beating Pakistan powerhouse Shahid Afridi.
Afridi’s record has held for almost 30 years since he scored a century at the age of 16 years and 217 days in an ODI against Sri Lanka.
The record stands for now but the time is still on Suryavanshi’s side. He is far from Afridi’s age of 15 years and 121 days, however, and will have chances to make a new mark in cricket history.
Earlier in the Zimbabwe series Suryavanshi had already set a world record to become the youngest player to score an international half-century. He was able to score his explosive fifty in just 18 balls, establishing a strong base on the Indian side with his impactful score.
The international journey of the youngster has gone through a complete transformation in a short period. Made his debut in T20I against England, but failed to make his mark and was dropped after three games. But his return to the Zimbabwe series has turned his fortunes around.
Suryavanshi had a quickfire 50 in the first T20I, before scoring 20 runs in the second and finally a career-best 81 in the third T20I.
The left-handed batsman has already proved himself to be one of the most promising young hitters for India with his fearless shot and impressive consistency at a young age. Afridi’s world record is in danger of being broken if he remains in the same style, as he has kept in the past.
