Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Creates History on India Debut, But Unwanted T20I Record Overshadows Milestone

The 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is finally playing for India at the senior level following his debut T20 International against England in the second match of the series at the Old Trafford in Manchester. The youngster made the record books by becoming the youngest player to represent India in International cricket, leaving Sachin Tendulkar’s record behind.

But the memorable moment came with the unfortunate statistic that the Indian batsman had never before achieved,

Vaibhav Registers Unwanted First on Debut

The teenager, who was in the minor league team, seemed to have no fear in him from the moment he was handed the ball to the crease. He had straightaway showed his attacking spirit by clearing the boundary twice and soon he was to reach 14 runs from 10 deliveries.

After attempting to resume his attack on England spinner Will Jacks, Vaibhav came down the pitch for a larger strike. He did not deliver the ball to the wicketkeeper, who then took out the bails. This meant the youngster had become the first Indian to be stumped on his debut T20 international.

His innings were short but his display of confidence and aggression made him a favourite with cricket lovers.

England Clinch Thriller to Take Series Lead

It was a successful chase as England had won the match by four wickets and are 1-0 up in the five-match series against India after the first T20I had to be abandoned due to rain.

The momentum was lost from the get-go at the weekend as England were bowled out at the crease in the first over by Phil Salt and Jos Buttler, who both got bowled without scoring a run.It was yet another bad start and England were bowled out at the crease in the first over, with Phil Salt and Jos Buttler getting bowled without hitting the ball home.

But England bounced back with great style with Harry Brook & Jacob Bethell.

Brook was all over from the beginning, adding a quick 39 off 12 balls, but Bethell was the star of the game.

Jacob Bethell’s Match-Winning Knock

Brook left and Bethell carried on his strong form of attack as Tom Banton gave him 39 runs, also supporting well.

The pinnacle of the performance came when Bethell got to the ball of leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi and scored 29 runs in one over to set up a stellar half century.

He scored a brilliant 76 off 46 balls with plenty of aggressive strokes to lead the way for England in the chase and finished with one over to spare when they crossed the line.

This is India’s Batters Post Competitive Total.

Vaibhav’s absence had a positive impact on the Indian side in the early days.

Abhishek Sharma had another brilliant start and Ishan Kishan had a fine middle order performance. Tilak Varma played a pivotal role in helping India get to the finish line with a brisk 44 off 30 in the penultimate over to reach 190/7 in the allotted 20 overs.

The total looked up to scratch but England’s middle order had responded well to level the match and pick up a crucial win.

Historic Debut, Mixed Emotions

There will be two things for which Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s debut for the country is going to be remembered. On the other hand he was the youngest player in the history of Indian cricket at the age of 15 years. On the other, he also got an unwanted entry in the records as he was India’s first batsman to be stumped on his T20I debut.

However, the teenager displayed a bit of his fearless batting style in the process and Indian fans had plenty to be excited for in the future.
