The cricket game is usually a long form game where each team is given a total of 50 overs and a total of 600 balls are bowled in one match in a ODI game. However, once in the history of the sport, an ODI was so hastened that it surprised the entire globe.
This is a unique record that was established during one match between Nepal national cricket team and United States national cricket team. The game was held on 12 February 2020, in Kirtipur, Nepal, in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2. The match was the shortest ODI match that has been played with only 104 balls being played.
Nepal and Bangladesh both won the toss and opted to bowl first. The next thing that ensued was the total collapse of the USA batting lineup. The bowlers of Nepal were ruling at the very first stage and did not leave the batters to rest. The USA team had a very low score of 35 runs in 12 overs, which was among the lowest score in the ODI cricket.
The match star was the leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane who got six and Sushan Bhari got the remaining four. The batters of the USA had a very difficult time in dealing with the slowness and precision of the Nepal attack.
With a target of only 36 runs, Nepal was not bothered to complete the match. It took them just 5. 2 overs to achieve the target, losing two wickets in the process. Nepal won the game comfortably by using only 443 balls and the game was too early than anyone expected.
This game is still considered one of the strangest records in the ODI history and it is frequently referred to as evidence proving that sometimes, even in the sphere of cricket, the outcomes can be quite unexpected.
