The high scoring semi-final between India and England in the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai was one of the most dramatic games in the history of T20 World Cups. India won by a margin of seven runs in the high-scoring game. The competition was a batting show, and both teams generated hard-hitting cricket the whole night. By the time the match ended, there were close-to half a thousand combined runs indicated on the scoreboard.
India is now to face New Zealand in the final. The Indian team has only made it to the final game of the T20 world cup thrice, after performing in the year 2007 and again in the year 2024.
India started the match by being requested to bat first in the match because of a lost toss. The Indian batters charged at the very beginning, not playing in the defensive. Sanju Samson was back to the limelight of the Indian inning. The batter of the wicketkeeper was in a ferocious form of 89 out of 42 balls, with a blend of good timing and hard hitting.
With this innings, Samson was able to keep India at a good rate of scoring during the middle overs. The early wicket has developed an essential partnership with Ishan Kishan that stabilized the innings and provided India with platforms to drive the total further.
After the foundation had been established, the middle order made sure that the pressure never fell. Shivam Dube inserted fast runs and Hardik Pandya launched the scoring during the last overs. At the end of the innings, India had already achieved 253 runs which was one of the largest scores in a T20 World Cup knockout match.
The pursuit of England was not less amusing. Young batter Jacob Bethell gave out an innings that was fearless which narrowly missed reversing the game. And his century was made with only 48 balls and held England in the battle when wickets were being lost around him.
Yet, India has been able to attack at the right time. Frequent breakthroughs did not allow England to establish long-term partnerships, which made the target a little inaccessible with the assistance of Bethell.
By the time the last over was over, England was at 246 and India was in the semi-final winning by seven runs in a tense semi-final.
In the case of India, it does not only win to get another final. It demonstrates how the team is capable of playing in knockout games. New Zealand now awaits the final in the title match, and this will mark another nail-biting conclusion in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
