T20 Mumbai League Strengthens Commercial Model With Ninth Franchise

The next phase of growth of the T20 Mumbai League has begun with a new investment by Aspects Sports. The company has signed an operating agreement of a team from Navi Mumbai for six years, with the team paying ₹12.21 crore in its first season and the total amount for the franchise being ₹106.88 crore.

The deal brings another commercial partner to the Mumbai-based competition and extends its outreach to the sprawling Mumbai area. Navi Mumbai will be the ninth team to join the league when the new season kicks off.

The deal’s financial details highlight the increasing value of the tournament’s franchise. The Mumbai Cricket Association is introducing another organisation to the competition, which will lead to a greater network of team operators and a bigger platform for commercial activity.

The transfer also has ramifications for the local player pathway. The team from Navi Mumbai might provide an extra opportunity for Mumbai cricketers to showcase their abilities in a major T20 tournament. This league expansion can thus help to link up more young players with real-world opportunities.

The new franchise will help to bring organised cricket to a larger part of the region, said MCA president Ajinkya Naik. He greeted the introduction of Aspects Sports and said that opportunities to nurture players within the wider Mumbai cricket landscape are crucial.

The extra franchise would help the tournament to establish a sustainable sports property, said Rajdip Gupta, who leads the league’s governing council. He also pointed out the significance of a broader franchise base to stakeholders and audiences.

The league has got a boost with its face Rohit Sharma. It had a number of established India players on its 2026 season, such as Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube, Shardul Thakur, Sarfaraz Khan and Tushar Deshpande.

This entry to the competition now adds another regional identity, and another ownership group, to the Navi Mumbai entry. Whether or not it will have a lasting impact will depend on the team’s management, player development programme, and the following it can generate in the area.

The T20 Mumbai League is now bringing in franchise expansion as well as a more comprehensive strategy to grow its commercial reach and build up the Mumbai domestic cricket ecosystem with the new deal.
