Sourav Ganguly to coach Pretoria Capitals in SA20 2026

Sourav Ganguly has a new seat in cricket. Pretoria Capitals have signed him on as their head coach for the upcoming SA20. The team dropped the news on Instagram with a line that read, The Prince is all set to bring a royal flair.
It’s his first crack at being a head coach in franchise cricket. Ganguly had earlier worked as Team Director with Delhi Capitals back in 2018-19. That gig ended when he moved into BCCI politics, first CAB, then board president. Last year he joined JSW as director of cricket. Now it’s Pretoria. He’ll also handle the team’s plans at the auction on September 9.
Jonathan Trott is out. The former England batter had only one season in charge, two wins in ten matches, and no playoff run. The franchise put out a thank you message, calling him forever a Capital. Trott carries on with Afghanistan, with the 2026 T20 World Cup already in his sights.
This season of the SA20 has been shifted forward. December 26 to January 25. The move was to avoid a collision with the World Cup.
As for India coaching? Ganguly hasn’t closed the door. Speaking earlier this year, he admitted he never thought much about it but wouldn’t say no if the call came. Right now though, the spotlight is on Centurion. And Pretoria waits.
