India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has left the ICU and is in a stable condition. The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) informed about this on Tuesday, 28 October 2025.

Shreyas injured himself during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney. “The doctors and the medical teams are looking after him, So we have sent a specialist doctor to Australia along with physiotherapist Patrick Farhart.” They also said that Shreyas is doing well and feeling better now.
The BCCI said in a statement, “Injury was attended to immediately. Shreyas is out of danger and, his health is reportedly getting better. His condition is being closely monitored by the medical team.”
Shreyas Iyer injured himself while attempting to catch a tough hit by Australia player Alex Carey off bowler Harshit Rana. He sprinted forward and dived to make the catch in midair, but banged up amid that dive his left ribs and spleen.
He walked out of the field helped by a couple of people and he looked okay at first. But within minutes, his condition began to decline. His body readings went down. The team doctor rushed to help him and he was brought directly to the hospital.
At the hospital, doctors performed scans and tests. What they found was that his spleen had been cut, and there was bleeding inside him. Doctors got the bleeding to stop and moved him into the ICU.
He remained in the I.C.U. for a time, closely observed. On Tuesday, the doctors said that his condition had improved significantly and that a new scan report was showing favorable signs.
T20I skipper of India about the health condition of Shreyas, Suryakumar Yadav said. He said,
We were used to seeing him make that catch then. But later we learned he was seriously injured inside. They were lucky the doctors answered, he added. We spoke to him later, and he was speaking normally, and it reassured us.
This is very rare, what can you do but every now and then very bad things happen to even good players. God is with him. He is getting better fast. He is in the care of the BCCI and the doctors and hopefully he will be back with us soon.
The head doctor of BCCI Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala praised the medical team claiming that they acted promptly on the field. He claimed that they reacted fast so that they could avoid a critical situation.
In the meantime, it was reported that the family of Shreyas will come to ensure that he is doing well by going to Sydney soon. Their presence will definitely provide him with the emotional support and strength.
The physicians have prescribed that Shreyas should have a few weeks of absolute rest before he is reintroduced into the game of cricket. According to the BCCI, the player will have no rush to make his comeback and they want the player to be fully fit before he comes back.
The fans felt quite happy and relieved when they heard that Shreyas Iyer was out of ICU. Social media was filled with many individuals wishing that he recovered soon and became healthy.
Shreyas Iyer is another key figure in Team India and the vice captain of ODI team as well. Nationwide fans are eager to find him in the field once again in the blue jersey.
