Some of the members of the selection committee said they were disheartened after the public statement, hoping the board’s stance had not shifted with increasing responses from fans on social media.
The 2027 ODI World Cup planning is still a subject of discussion.
The report also added that some selectors are yet to believe that India should start to field a younger side for the 2027 ODI World Cup and questioned whether Rohit should play a role long-term.

Agarkar’s original contract was set to expire in June 2026 but it is understood that he received a three-month extension from the BCCI. Earlier, it was believed that he may continue till the end of the 2027 ODI World Cup, but now, it is revealed that former India captain VVS Laxman is on the list for consideration if the board decides to change.
Both the BCCI and the selection committee have not announced anything officially in regards to changing the leadership, so both Rohit Sharma and the selection panel are subject to speculation at present.
