India’s Steady Start and Harleen’s Key Knock
Pakistan won the toss and chose to field first, hoping to take advantage of the early morning conditions in Colombo. However, India’s openers Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal got off to a confident start, finding the gaps and rotating the strike smartly. Rawal was particularly aggressive, hitting three boundaries in a single over off Diana Baig, giving India early momentum. The pair scored freely early on before Mandhana was trapped lbw for 23. Harleen Deol then anchored the innings through the middle overs, adding crucial runs with Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues.
Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, India did not let the scoreboard struggle and kept the runs coming with smart batting and good running between the wickets. Every batter tried to add some important runs for the team.
Gaud and Deepti Star as Pakistan Collapse
Pakistan’s chase started very slowly because of the smart and tight bowling from Renuka Thakur and Kranti Gaud. In the first four overs, they gave away only six runs, not letting the batters settle. Kranti Gaud then took three important wickets, including Aliya Riaz and Natalia Pervaiz, which pushed Pakistan on the back foot early in the innings.
Even after losing quick wickets, Sidra Amin fought bravely for her team. She played a strong innings of 81 runs from 108 balls, trying her best to keep Pakistan’s hopes alive. But none of the other batters could stay with her — no one even reached 35 runs. India’s bowlers Deepti Sharma (3 wickets for 45 runs) and Sneh Rana (2 wickets for 37 runs) bowled very well and ended Pakistan’s innings in just 43 overs.
With this win, India recorded their 12th straight victory against Pakistan in ODIs and their fifth win in World Cup matches. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s team now sits at the top of the points table, continuing their unbeaten run in the tournament.
