The Holkar Stadium, which is also referred to as Holkar Cricket stadium is one of the most thrilling cricketing arenas in India and it is situated in the city of Indore, race Course Road, Madhya Pradesh. The stadium has a seating capacity of around 30,000, state-of-the-art cricket facilities and a strong cricket culture, which has led to it hosting some memorable games in terms of record-breaking games and international tournaments. With the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 approached, Holkar Stadium will once again become the centre of world cricket.

History of Holkar Stadium

The stadium was also known as the Maharani Usharaje Trust Cricket Ground before it was renamed in 2010 to Holkar stadium in remembering the dynasty of holkar of Indore. The Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) owns it and it is also based here.

On 15 April 2006 the first international match in this venue was an ODI between India and England. ODIs, T20I, Tests as well as domestic competition like Ranji Trophy have since been hosted on the ground. It became an elite Test venue in India in 2016, when India faced New Zealand here.

Holkar Stadium Pitch Report

The pitch at the Holkar Stadium is four square edges, with a small long square area of approximately 56 metres, allowing batsmen to cover the left corner with strokes. In limited-overs cricket, genuine bounce and a fast outfield usually favour batsmen, but spinners come into play later in the game.

This is a high scoring ground in ODIs and T20Is. There should be run-fests and fierce batting to be anticipated by the fans but when the game is a Test, the pitch has favoured the spinners and they have yielded results.

Capacity and Facilities

  • Seating Capacity: Around 30,000
  • Floodlights: Yes (day-night matches possible)
  • Pavilions: Named after legends such as C. K. Nayudu and Syed Mushtaq Ali
  • Academy: Houses the Sanjay Jagdale MPCA Academy for youth development

In July 2025, the stadium also launched its own Cricket Museum, displaying priceless memorabilia such as Sachin Tendulkar’s pads, Rahul Dravid’s gloves, and a life-size statue of Kapil Dev lifting the 1983 World Cup trophy. This makes Holkar one of the few Indian stadiums with a dedicated cricket museum.
