Delhi Capitals Look to Amit Mishra to Develop Their Spin Attack

The Delhi Capitals have welcomed a specialist to the coaching squad with the return of Amit Mishra, who will be working with the spin department.

One of the players that could benefit from the move is Zeeshan Ansari, who was picked up by Delhi in a deal with Sunrisers Hyderabad’s fast bowler T Natarajan. If the team is planning to include leg-spinner Vipraj Nigam and Rehan Ahmed in its rotation, they stand to gain as well.

Delhi can look forward to someone who has been working under the grueling conditions of the tournament for years now, with Mishra joining the team. His last season in the IPL was in 2024 when he took 174 wickets in 162 matches. Best of 5 for 17.

He also has something that no other IPL player has been able to achieve – three hat tricks in three different contests for three different teams. Mishra achieved the milestone with Delhi Daredevils in 2008, Deccan Chargers in 2011 and Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013.

The veteran, who debuted for the franchise in the inaugural season of the IPL, is an old hand in the city, having played the domestic season in numerous games. During his playing days, his team Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) played 10 seasons in the city.

The coaching contract comes as part of a shake-up at the franchise. Sourav Ganguly has been appointed as the head coach, Yuvraj Singh as assistant coach and Chaminda Vaas as fast bowling coach. Yuvraj also has the experience of IPL hat-trix, as he has picked up two during his playing career.

Delhi Capitals have also moved on to developing a coaching team with experience in various facets of the game with former players taking on crucial roles. Mishra’s job will be to help his bowlers and make use of his spin bowling knowledge of the competition in IPL.
