India’s poor T20I form has apparently convinced the BCCI for a detailed analysis of the performance of the men’s squad. With the fourth defeat to England in T20Is, the board is likely to look into the players, and the support staff, as well, especially after the team’s form wobbles.
The entire T20 environment will be reviewed after India’s poor performances in back-to-back overseas tests, reports said. Head coach Gautam Gambhir is still in contract till 2027 but his contract is also likely to be among the points of discussion regarding his performance.
India’s journey to the malaise started with a shocking 2-0 series defeat at Ireland in their first-ever series with the Irish side in the 20-over format. The poor run persisted in England, with the Shreyas Iyer side failing to prevent the home side from getting the series clinched with one game to spare. The first match was abandoned by rain and the next three matches were won to secure England’s unbeatable lead.
The losses have put extra strain on the team’s new leadership team. After the BCCI waived its duty to retain Suryakumar Yadav, who led India to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup championship in 2021, Shreyas Iyer was given the captaincy. But, since that exchange, India have not been able to consistently perform and doubts have arisen regarding the direction of the team.

England sealed the series victory with a heavy blow in Bristol’s fourth T20I. India took the opening wicket first, scoring 158/7 with captain Shreyas Iyer coming up unbeaten with an 80 off 49 balls. But the support from the rest of the batting was minimal and India failed to show any improvement to shoot beyond a lofty target.
England’s response was straight to the point and unimpressed at the best of times. The hosts were able to hit it comfortably with over six overs to spare after captain Harry Brook and opener Phil Salt both scored big in their own fashion, with Harry smashing a 79 for 35 off 35 balls and Phil adding a fluent 59. In the past, fast bowlers Jofra Archer (4 wickets) and Josh Tongue (4 wickets) had also been able to hold the Indians batting line-up.
It was also England’s first-ever bilateral series win over India in a series of 2+ matches, which is a big achievement for the home side.
India will now try to avoid a whitewash, with the remaining match in the series yet to come, while the BCCI’s rumoured review could have an impact on who gets selected for their upcoming ICC series and how they are planned for as they get ready for yet another major event.
