Only a few weeks prior to the start of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, a big problem has been revealed. Once again, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has indicated that Bangladesh is not going to participate in its World Cup matches in India because of the security issue.
A recent video meeting with the International Cricket Council was followed by a statement by the Bangladesh board which stated that its stance was the same. The ICC has been requested by BCB to shift all the matches of Bangladesh outside India.
As shown in the official tournament schedule, Bangladesh is expected to host its first three group matches in Kolkata and the last group match in Mumbai. But BCB would like to have all these matches transferred to Sri Lanka. The ICC is yet to accept this request.
The Bangladesh board in its statement mentioned that the safety of its players, officials and staff is the priority. This is why it does not wish the team to travel to India at this moment.
ICC on the other hand has claimed that the tournament programme has been already published and that there are great security pre-plans. The international cricketing authority has urged Bangladesh to revisit its course of action but the board has failed to do so.
The two parties have decided to keep up negotiations in the quest to find a solution. The tournament will kick off on February 7 and the hosts are India and Sri Lanka thus the problem has been a source of tension before the mega event.
