Amit Mishra has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after a 25-year career.


Leg-spinner Amit Mishra has officially retired from all forms of cricket, ending a professional career spanning over 20 years.
Mishra, who is 42, played 22 Tests, 36 one-day internationals and 10 twenty-two overs, ending with 156 international wickets. And his Test debut, at Mohali in 2008, against Australia, was a memorable one, as he took a five-wicket haul.
Mishra continued to play domestic cricket and in the Indian Premier League despite his last international outing in 2017. He was last used in Lucknow Super Giants in the 2024 season.
Mishra proved himself to be one of the most stable players in the IPL. He took 174 wickets in 162 games which made him one of the all-time greatest wicket-takers in the league. He is also the only bowler ever to take three hat-tricks in the history of IPL, having done so whilst playing with Delhi Daredevils in 2008, Deccan Chargers in 2011 and Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013.
In a press release that announced the move, Mishra mentioned injuries as well as the need to provide younger players with opportunities. He thanked the BCCI, Haryana Cricket Association, his coaches, teammates, and fans and said that cricket was his first love and that nothing brought him more happiness.
Mishra leaves behind as one of the most successful spinners ever in the T20 era, and in the IPL, he is remembered as someone who could always be counted upon to operate consistently and who brought to the table something that was never seen before.
