A five decade old cricket stadium situated in the Karnataka that has been hosting all formats of cricket (domestic and international) events since its functionality, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, apart from cricket events the ground has given space for many more events.
Introduction of M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore
D Devraj’s Karnataka Government in 1969 laid the foundation stone for the M Chinnaswamy Stadium and the construction work was completed in 1970. The pitch was used for international cricket event after 4 years of construction, when India vs West Indies match played on 22-November-1974. The stadium is situated in Bangelore’s Mahatma Gandhi Rd., Shivaji Nagar, Karnataka state.
During initial days, the M Chinnaswami Stadium was called as Karnataka State Cricket Association Stadium before it was renamed to M Chinnaswami Stadium, the founding member of the Mysore State Cricket Association. The ground has been leased out to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for 100 years by the Karnataka government.
During any event, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium can accommodate 33800 spectators by seating capacity of the ground. This ground has been renovated several times to make the pitch suitable, an investment of 4.5 crore to install water purification plant and a 400 kW Solar panel system has been employed that reduces its carbon footprints. At the pitch, a rainwater drainage system is created to dry the pitch fast.
The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has hosted the four World Cup tournaments in 1987, 1996, 2011, and 2023.
