But of those hundred-Test veterans is an even rarer breed – the ones who made their milestone match into a masterpiece.
Scoring a century in the 100th Test match is one of the sports most exclusive feats in cricket. In almost 150 years of Test History, it has only been accomplished by 11 players in total. From England’s Colin Cowdrey in 1968 to Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim in 2025, all these names left an indelible mark in the record books of the game.

- Colin Cowdrey (England) – 104 vs Australia 1968
Scorer the first 100 Tests also became the first to score a century in the landmark match. - Javed Miandad (Pakistan) – 145 vs India, 1989

- Gordon Greenidge (West Indies) – 149 versus England – 1990

- Inzamam-ul-Haq (Pakistan) -184 vs India. 2005
And it also true that Inzamam saved his best for the big stage. Facing India in Bangalore he had scored a majestic 184 – one of the highest scores anytime in a 100th Test. His stroke play and ability to absorb pressure made the knock one of the best of his career.
- Ricky Ponting (Australia) – 120 & 143 vs South Africa, 2006*
The only player in the history of Test cricket to score centuries in both innings of his 100th match against. Ponting’s twin hundreds at the SCG — 120 and an unbeaten 143 — demonstrated his intensity and hunger. It is still among the greatest milestone performances of all time.
- Graeme Smith (South Africa) 131 vs England 2012
Captain for almost his entire playing career, Smith delivered a leader’s innings at The Oval. His 131 established the foundation of South Africa’s victory and was indicative of the mental strength which made him one of the most successful Test captains.
- Hashim Amla (South Africa) – 134 vs Sri Lanka 2017
Amla’s class was on full display in Johannesburg. His calm, controlled 134 was vintage Amla — wristy flicks, pinpoint drives and total command. The century marked his status as one of South Africa’s modern greats.
- Joe Root (England) – 218 vs India, 2021
Root became the first player ever to score a double century in his 100th Test. His monumental 218 in Chennai was a masterpiece of playing spin, of foot work and of strike rotation. It is considered one of the best Test innings by Root.
- David Warner (Aus) – 200 vs South Africa, 2022*
Battling heat, cramps and scrutiny around the form, Warner responded with an unbeaten double hundred at the MCG; a career reviving response. His 200* was a reminder of his explosive potential even late in his career which made him the second player after Root with a double ton in the 100th Test.
- Mushfiqur Rahim (Bangladesh vs Ireland), 2025
The newest and first Bangladeshi member of the club, Mushfiqur Rahim scored three figures in his Test 100th match against Ireland in 2025 in Mirpur. A hallmark of grit and elegance, Rahim’s innings showed his experience and consistency – qualities abandoned Bangladesh cricket for more than 15 years.
